Women of the fishing community who are leaders for ocean protection

START: FEBRUARY 2019

END: JULY 2020 (POSTPONED)

FINANCIAL SUPPORT:

This project is financed by the National Geographic Society who attributed a NatGeo Explorer grant to Raquel Gaspar, marine Biologist, co-founder of Ocean Alive.

We aim to produce research on the seagrass meadows that can inform political decisions on the environmental management of this ecosystem. This is a process led by the fishing community aimed at being reproducible in other marine areas of Portugal and of Portuguese-speaking African countries (PALOP communities).

The scientific diving tasks of this project are supported by the Portuguese Navy.
