WATER SENTINELS

Citizen science for water quality

START: March 2021

END: September 2021

FUNDING:

WATER SENTINELS is one of the pilots supported by ACTION project. This project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement number 824603.

WATER SENTINELS is a citizen-science pilot by Ocean Alive to promote water quality at Sado estuary. We engaged who lives off the sea on collecting water samples and information about estuary areas where pollution events happen. We engaged who studies water quality and who can inform decision-makers about data analysis and dissemination.

This project is rooted in a wider aim: the conservation and restoration of seagrass meadows in the Sado Estuary.

Two scientific partners are involved in this pilot: Centre for Energy and Research (CINEA, Polytechnic Institute of Setúbal), Setúbal School of Technology (Polytechnic Institute of Setúbal) and MARE Marine and Environmental Research Centre (University of Lisbon).

Data will be available soon for the public, researchers and decision-makers at the resources area of this page (below) and at Coastnet geoportal.
